1. Meeting Schedule: Save the dates

We have a small group, room for more, and it’s one of the activities people can join if they’re still working. All are welcome! Meetings are scheduled for the following Mondays at 7PM in the Rappahannock Room.

2. Recap and our upcoming meeting

We were out of town 11/18 but the Rappahannock Room was reserved for our group and I'm not sure who attended. This is a busy time of year!

We went on a few short trips recently including a few days in DC with the Road Scholar course called "Spies, Lies & International Espionage." It was a fascinating few days with lectures (mostly retired CIA) and trips around DC and a day in the Spy Museum. Road Scholar has in-person and online classes. This was the first one we took and would recommend it.

A friend has a timeshare with extra rooms in Virginia Beach and invited us to tag along for a weekend. We hadn't been there before and enjoyed exploring. At this time of year a lot of places near the ocean were closed but there were enough restaurants and shops open to keep us busy. The view was spectacular - including different kinds of ships and a submarine! Then there was the necessary zone out time.

Finally, we went to DC for a couple of days to celebrate Thanksgiving with family. We're lucky to have such great families and grateful for that. My 97-year old aunt was able to attend and it was great to see her, the cousins, nephews and nieces and all of the "greats" with the oldest great being a UVA freshman. Watching them and learning about what they have done through the years is endlessly fascinating.

If you've lost someone, this time of year can be tough. I proactively updated my family via email on the status with our son so we didn't have to face difficult questions. That strategy worked. Feel free to keep the tip! Keeping busy, enjoying fond memories, spending time with people we like and taking time for the good things in life helps me and I hope it helps you, too.

What is on your mind? Do you have some tips, websites, podcasts or books to share? What’s on your mind?

Please bring a list of any of the following:

  • favorite websites
  • your subscription magazines - how did you choose and what’s important to you about them?
  • names of a few books you’ve recently read
  • summary of recent articles of interest
  • topics on your mind

We’ll use the list to determine topics.

I hope to see you soon.

Cheers,

Marcia
