1. Meeting Schedule
We have a small group, room for more, and it’s one of the activities people can join if they’re still working. All are welcome!
Meetings are scheduled for the following Mondays at 7PM in the Rappahannock Room.

January 1 - yes, I know it’s New Year’s Day and there’s football and such, but I’ll show up and if anyone wants to talk, I’ll wait till 7:30. Otherwise, I’ll see you January 15, Martin Luther King Day.

2. A few topics from the last meeting and for upcoming meetings
In our last meeting, we discussed Ernie Pyle, the great war correspondent. We listened to the audio version of one of his most famous pieces, “The Death of Captain Waskow” at https://erniepyle.iu.edu/wartime-columns/captain-waskow.html. We talked about how Mr. Pyle provided “color” and personalizing the war and the experiences of our military men and women. We compared that to news reporting of the facts and how having this color took those facts to a more personal level. Sometimes the facts themselves can be overwhelming but the personal experiences are more relatable.
The book “The Things They Carried” by Tim O’Brien was highly recommended and you can find it in any version on Amazon at https://a.co/d/fEivae9. Looks like a fascinating read.
“All Quiet on the Western Front” by Erich Maria Remarque was also suggested and it’s available on Amazon at https://a.co/d/hOpwFTA. There have been a few film versions including one made last year.
The Sunken Road, part of the Fredericksburg & Spotsylvania National Military Park system, was a good suggestion for history buffs. Please see their website for more information and local history. https://www.nps.gov/places/the-sunken-road.htm
