1. Upcoming Meeting
The next meeting is scheduled for May 15, Monday at 7PM in the Rappahannock Room.
2. Possible Charter
In the May 16 Board Meeting Agenda, our request for our charter approval is listed. The main benefits are the assurance of a meeting space and ability to publicize our group to the community. We have a small group, room for more, and it’s one of the activities people can join if they’re still working. All are welcome!
3. A few topics
We just returned from a riverboat cruise down the Mississippi from Memphis to New Orleans. This trip was planned for the Traveling Wannabees at Fredericksburg (you can find them on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/groups/591497121669214/) and it was delightful traveling with this small group and getting to know more of our neighbors.
The cruise was on the American Queen, a charming paddleboat with steam stacks. https://www.aqvoyages.com/ The stops were interesting, food was great, entertainment was very good. Nice to get away and see different places including Memphis (Graceland, of course, along with Beale Street) and hear the music of then and now. We went to the Grammy Museum in Cleveland, MS https://www.grammymuseumms.org/, saw many old houses and ended the trip in New Orleans a week before Jazz Fest, https://www.nojazzfest.com/. Such an interesting trip and so much great music along the way.
We’re lucky to have an active Travel Committee in the community and the Traveling Wannabees, an independent group led by Pam Pospisil finding great opportunities for our community.
It reminded me of large and small trips we’ve taken to learn/see something new, how much travel enriches and changes us. Looking forward to our next trip!
You might be interested in history as I am, and I’m learning more about Midieval times. There’s a good website at https://www.tttpodcast.com/medieval-history-podcasts with recordings of different topics. You can listen on the site listed or go to your favorite podcast program and download.
Please bring a list of any of the following:
- favorite websites
- your subscription magazines - how did you choose and what’s important to you about them?
- names of a few books you’ve recently read
- summary of recent articles of interest
- topics on your mind
We’ll use the list to determine topics.
I hope to see you Monday night.
