The following is our email from July 27, 2022.
I hope you’re well. This email is sent to people who have expressed interest or attended one of our evening conversations. To be removed from the list, just email me.
Shelby and I arranged meetings through October. I was aiming for the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month, but the 3rd Wednesday is movie night.
Here’s what we’re doing instead so please mark your calendar. I hope it’s not too complicated, and it will give us a chance to see which night is better in practice.
Our next meeting will be held Wednesday, August 3 at 6:00 PM.
Subsequent meetings will be on 6:00 PM on the following dates:
Thursday, August 18,
Wednesday, September 7,
Thursday, September 22,
Wednesday, October 5, and
Thursday, October 20.
Shelby and I discussed the pros and cons of chartering the group. Chartering would give us an almost guaranteed space and time along with advertising in Shelby’s mailing and the Friday Management Report. If we were to charter, we’d need to continue using attendance forms (I like those either way), have at least 10 members, formalize leadership roles such as President, VP and Secretary, then have formal meetings at least annually.
I think that at this point, it’s not as beneficial to charter. The only part I am concerned about is having a meeting space, especially when things get busier in the winter. Let’s remain open to the idea and revisit it in the future.
You no longer have to sign up in the white binder. I will continue to advertise on our website at https://tea-and-talk.blogspot.com, on the community’s discussion group and on both Facebook pages. Anyone may contact me if there are questions or if someone wants to be on the mailing list. Other than that - just come!
We bring extra masks and name tags in case you forget. I hope this will change for the better in the future.
Last time, I provided a few different topics and members at both tables both decided to talk about grandparents. It was so interesting learning about people’s families! These are my favorite types of conversations.
Here are some optional topics for our meeting, and as always, you can bring in your own topic or go in another direction thanks to comments another person may make.
Travel:
Where have you lived? Would you return to any of those places? Which one/s and why?
Tell us about your favorite vacation? What made it great?
Do you have travel plans? Do tell!
If you’re not traveling: if you could go anywhere now, where would it be? Why?
What’s the most challenging part of traveling for you?
Where is the world would you like to live if you could? Why?
Inventions, Science and Technology:
What are some items new to the market when you were young?
What was your first personal car or did you use public transportation?
What inventions have made a difference in your personal or professional life?
Do you follow science or technology news? What types of advances intrigue you?
I’m looking forward to seeing you!
Cheers,
Marcia
